How Can Cleansing Balms Help Your Skin?

Cleansing balms are one of the most misunderstood products in the skincare world, but also the most versatile.

Part moisturiser, part cleanser, part hydrating face mask, and even a soothing skincare oil, there’s a reason women don’t know what to do with this product! We decipher each part of the cleansing balm, and let you know how to use it.

Cleanser

Don’t let the thick consistency throw you off – a cleansing balm is the perfect product to use as a cleanser. Simply mix a few drops of water into the palm of your hand, and apply once a day onto dry skin. The formula is perfect for all skin types (but especially nourishing for dehydrated skin), and won’t feel too heavy afterwards.

Moisturiser

Use as a moisturiser on dry patches of skin such as feet, knees, elbows, and hands before going to bed. The invigorating formulas will help send you to sleep, and also revitalises troublesome spots on both the face and body. Apply directly onto fresh skin for best results, and let it soak completely before following-up with other skincare or cosmetics.

Face mask

Most cleansing balms come with a handy muslin cloth so you always have the option of using them as a face mask. Unclog your pores and remove makeup by applying generously over the face and neck. Lie down, and relax for 10-15 minutes, then simply wipe-off with a muslin cloth soaked in lukewarm water.

Exfoliator

Gently exfoliate your entire body with the use of a cleansing balm. Most formulas are free from parabens, silicones, and mineral oils, so they won’t interrupt your usual skincare routine. Use a warm muslin cloth to easily remove the excess product, and leave skin feeling silky smooth before heading to bed.

Lip balm

And lastly, use the cleansing balm as a multi-purpose lip cream to nourish dry, cracked skin. Most formulas contain skin-loving rosehip oil which is super-hydrating during the winter months, and will make your face glow.

A Beginner’s Guide To Beauty Balms

Whether you’re constantly travelling on-the-go, or simply need a multi-purpose cream which can be used for almost anything, try a beauty balm. These are small tubs which are filled with various infused organic oils, natural plants and antioxidants that work to hydrate the skin, hair and nails.

What are beauty balms?

Beauty balms are a multi-purpose beauty must-have because they can be used in numerous ways. If you want to minimise your skincare routine, a beauty balm will easily work in three unique ways.

Exfoliating cleanser

Most beauty balms can be used to exfoliate the skin when used in conjunction with a muslin cloth. Simply apply some product on your fingertips, and then gently massage a thin layer onto any dry or problem areas on the face or body. Pour some warm water on a muslin cloth and wipe away the solution. This is a less abrasive way to remove dry or dead skin cells, as opposed to using a scrub or cream exfoliating solution.

Nourishing balm

The main reason why beauty balms are in high-demand is because they moisturise the skin much better than a cream or spray formula. Not only are beauty balms packed with a variety of essential oils, but they nourish the skin and are gentle enough to use on all skin types. Apply a small amount of the balm to freshly cleansed areas and concentrate the solution to dry, cracked or problem areas.

Balancing mask

Another way to take advantage of all the benefits of your beauty balm is to use it as a balancing mask. This is another gentle way to deeply cleanse the pores without any vigorous scrubbing and exfoliating. Apply the balm with your fingers to freshly washed skin, and then cover your face with a hot muslin cloth. This allows the pores to open, and it is best to sit and relax for approximately 30 minutes until it’s done. Then just wipe off the balm with a muslin cloth. Skin will feel soft and cleansed after just one session.

What ingredients are used?

A large number of beauty balms use only organic ingredients with a high concentrate to restore smooth skin after just one application. Rosehip oil and jojoba oil are main ingredients since they are packed with antioxidants, which help to reduce redness, improve the appearance of skin, and moisturise dry patches.

Shea Butter: A nourishing ingredient which has the ability to soften skin and make it visibly smoother after continuous use. Keeps skin looking young and supple, regardless of age or sun damage.

Bees wax: Known to lock-in moisture and protect skin from various elements of everyday life. Bees wax is also a fantastic product to use in regards to skincare because it is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and won’t cause any breakouts or rashes.

Cocoa butter: High in vitamin E, this ingredient makes skin feel soft and smooth.
