Get the Look: Chic French Hair at NYFW

We’re kind of obsessed with the chic, French-inspired hair at the Peter Som A/W 2014 show at New York Fashion Week – think Anna Karina and Jeanne Moreau. Celebrity hairstylist and Wella Professionals Global Creative Director Eugene Souleiman took inspiration from iconic French styles – from the 1960’s to the present day.

Here’s how to get the look at home.

1. Wash and condition hair using Wella Professionals Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner to help preserve the shade and shine of colour treated hair.

2. Apply Perfect Setting Blow Dry Lotion and blow dry the hair using a round brush to create natural volume.

3. Spray Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray to the roots of the hair, to create texture.

4. Create a semi-part in the side of the hair and insert pre-coloured extension pieces through the head for desired amount of colour.

5. Gently blow dry with fingers focusing on the roots to create extra lift.

6. Using fingertips, massage the roots focusing on the crown to create a raised ‘static’ texture to the hair.

7. Take the front section of the hair and position bobby pins to gently hold the hair.

8. To create more texture, lift random sections of the hair and spray with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray.

Get the Look: Peter Som Makeup at NYFW

Every fashion week inspires new makeup trends, and the Peter Som A/W 2014 show at NYFW show is no different. Tom Pecheux for MAC created a chic, Parisian girl makeup with a smudgy, smoky eye and a natural lip that will look so good come wintertime.

To create the smoky eye, Tom brushed olive eyeshadow on the lids, then lined the upper and lower lash lines with dark green eye pencil, intensifying the look and creating a 3D effect by layering a black cream liner on top. Finally, he dotted the lids with lipgloss, for that sexy, rock-chick sheen.

Here are the exact makeup products used to create the look.

MAC Mineralize Foundation
MAC Powder Blush in Poised or Taupe
MAC Cream Colour Base in Hush

MAC Eye Shadow in Coquette, Espresso, Concrete or Era
MAC Pro Longwear Eyeliner in Black Ice Definitely Black mixed with Pro Longwear Eyeliner in Devotion

Get The Look: Perfect Messy Bun Hairstyle at NYFW

We love the messy bun hairstyle for day and night but it’s hard to get it just right – it can either look too undone or too ballerina. This is it: the perfect messy bun as seen at the Peter Som Spring/Summer 2014 show at New York Fashion Week that is both chic and on-trend.

It’s a great way of transforming a bad hair day into an effortless hairstyle for anyone with medium to long hair (and we love the messy bun on Jennifer Lawrence in the latest Miss Dior campaign).

Here’s how celebrity hairstylist Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director of Care & Styling, created the look in a few easy steps.

1. Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair, using Wella Professionals Enrich Shampoo and Conditioner, to ensure hair is in perfect condition.

2. Spray Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz liberally at the roots and throughout the length of the hair. Do not comb through.

3. Blow dry hair upwards at the root in circular motion, to create natural volume.

4. Pull hair into a high ponytail, between the occipital and crown, and secure with an elastic band.

5. Twist ponytail and tie into a knot, securing with several pins.

6. Spray hair again with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz and blast with a blow dryer to add more texture to the hair.

7. Gently pull a few pieces of the hair out, creating looseness and imperfection in the look.

8. Finish by pumping a dime size amount of Wella Professionals Mirror Polish into hands, rub together and apply to the roots of the hair in an upward motion for shine-enhanced texture.
