How To Get Bikini Confidence This Summer

One of Australia’s hottest in-demand exports, Natasha Oakley (pictured) – the LA-based, Sydney born swimwear model, fashion and lifestyle blogger and entrepreneur – has been announced as the body of Veet’s new Natural Inspirations range.

The rising star, who is fast becoming a global social media phenomenon with more than 657,000 followers on her Instagram alone, is passionate about empowering women to feel great. Her site, http://abikiniaday.com, which she runs alongside her best friend Devin Brugman, tackles the big issues of positive body image and confidence.

Idolised worldwide for her natural beauty and relaxed, beach-chic style, Natasha, 23, counts model, presenter, designer and producer among her many talents and credits. In addition, Natasha and Devin created their own swimwear label, Monday Swimwear – inspired by their constant search for that everyday, stylish yet comfortable ‘go-to bikini’.

With her entrepreneurial spirit and promotion of positive body image, Natasha is striving to be an inspirational role model for young women.

Leading depilatories expert Veet’s new hair removal solutions for all skin types, and for face and body, contain shea butter, aloe vera and grape seed oil for all skin types.  The Natural Inspirations range includes Wax Strips, $12.79; Sugar Wax, $15.49; Face Wax Strips, $11.49; Cream, $9.49; and an In Shower Cream, $15.99.

Here, Natasha talks her fave Veet products and how to get bikini confidence and beach-ready this spring/summer:

What are your Veet must-have products for summer? The new Natural Inspirations Range contains three depilatory creams and three wax products, all of which smell divine. However, I have always only ever been a wax girl so for this summer I highly recommend Veet’s Natural Inspirations Wax Strips (for body or face) and the Natural Inspirations Sugar Wax (both pictured below), or if you are at home with a bit more time for DIY hair removal, I would suggest using Veet’s Electrical Roll-On Kit.

What do you love most about Veet? Apart from how well their products work, what I love the most is the convenience of the wax strips while travelling! They are so light and convenient to pack – I just remove from box and place the flat strips in my bag.

How can women best prepare for bikini season?  Working out regularly is important, but I also feel confident in my bikini from little things like manicured nails, waxing with Veet for silky smooth skin at the beach and keeping your skin exfoliated and moisturised. Finding the right bikini is also very important – remember to find the suit that fits your body type best and don’t be afraid to go up or down a size from your regular size, just ensure the bikini is comfortable and not squeezing anywhere so it will be as flattering as possible to show off your naturally beautiful figure.

What body confidence tips do you have for young women? Confidence not only comes from embracing who you are and understanding that everyone is beautiful in their own way, it comes from leading a healthy balance lifestyle. If you are working out, eating correctly and maintaining a positive outlook on life, everything falls into place and with it you will feel more confident within yourself. Also remembering to never compare yourself to others, which can be hard as we all naturally do, is a key to confidence. If everyone was the same, the world would be boring – individuality is a beautiful, natural thing.

What bikinis are best suited to each different body shape? The article on my blog http://abikiniaday.com/what-is-your-body-type-and-which-bikini-should-you-be-wearing/ is a must-read for all women.

What bikini trends are hot for summer? The latest trends I saw recently at Miami Swim Week are neoprene, zips, mesh panelling and also a newer trend, rashies!

Can every woman wear a bikini?  Yes! It’s about knowing you body type, what suits and fits you best and rocking your bikini bod with confidence!

Hot Spring/Summer Hair Trends

It’s cold outside baby, but spring/summer is fast on its way: do you need your hair to go from drab to fab? New seasons are a great chance to revamp your hair style and try something new. Here, hair guru, Schwarzkopf’s national technical educator, Grant Withnell, talks us through the top spring/summer hair trends and how to get – and keep – amazing hair when the weather hots up.

New season, new look

Now that autumn/winter is over, it’s time for some summer fun! You can achieve a subtle change in your look by lightening your natural hair colour, but avoid heavy bleaching, Grant says. He recommends Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde Lightening Spray to gradually lighten hair by working with the sun. The unique, heat-activated formula with Argan Oil lightens hair up to one quarter of a shade per application for a subtle, summer glow. Or, if you fancy going darker, Schwarzkopf’s Nectra Colour has 16 vibrant hues to choose from. “The best thing about this product,” Grant says, “is that it provides 100 per cent grey coverage, brilliant shine and exceptional nutrition for hair thanks to its unique formula.” Hot Spring/Summer Hair Trends
How to get beach hair

We all love tousled, summer waves, but seawater can actually be pretty harsh on your hair. After a swim in the ocean, salt crystals may form in your tresses, causing it to look dull and feel dry. To get that chic, beachy look without diving into the ocean, Grant says to use Schwarzkopf Taft Full On Surfer Chic Texturising Sea Salt Spray; you’ll get waves without the dreaded crunch. And, if you are heading out after the beach, but want to avoid looking like your hair has suffered too much sand and surf, Grant says to take a leave-in conditioner with you. Simply wash your hair at the public showers, apply the conditioner and voila! You hair will look shiny and soft.

Give your hair TLC

The hair guru says hair treatments are crucial all-year-round, particularly in summer after a long day in the sun, or at the beach. His top care tip? To use daily treatments such as Schwarzkopf’s Extra Care Normal Balance Leave In Conditioner and nourish your hair with Schwarzkopf’s Essence Ultime Omega Repair Hair Mask, after shampooing and before conditioning, to penetrate deep into the hair and restore healthy locks.

Use UV protection

While hair does not get sunburned, it still gets damaged by the sun, and a colour begins to fade and hair becomes dry, rough and brittle. The best way to protect your hair is by using hair care products with UV protection such as the Schwarzkopf Extra Care Ultimate Colour range. “The unique conditioning agents infuse hair with proteins and vitamins, while antioxidants and light filters protect the hair pigments from the bleaching effects of the sun,” Grant says.

Combat the chlorine

That ugly green tint you may get in your hair in summer is caused by the copper in chlorine. Grant says the best way to avoid this is to use a liquid, leave-in conditioner when at the pool, as these products dilute chlorine. In addition, rinse hair immediately after getting out of pool.

Fight fading colour

If your hair colour is dull, this is usually due to excessive exposure to sunlight and/or water. Grant’s top tip to keep your colour fresh is to use a colour-protect care range and avoid washing hair too much. You can also try using semi-permanent colours like Schwarzkopf Live Colour, which he says lasts for eight washes and freshens up natural or coloured hair, as well as adding great shine and vibrancy, without too much risk.

Split ends prevention

A great hair care regime is paramount to prevent split ends this summer. “Adopt a three-step regime: shampoo, conditioner and treatment, every time you wash your hair,” Grant says. In addition, use a leave-in conditioner regularly and apply a mask weekly for extra nourishment. And trimming your hair every six weeks will also help keep it manageable and split-end free. If they do occur, smooth the ends with Schwarzkopf’s new Extra Care 6 Miracles Oil.

Summer must-have

Grant’s No.1 beach bag hair essential this summer is the new Schwarzkopf Extra Care BB Cream. “It provides 11 benefits in one,” he says, “including softness, shine, frizz control, deep nourishment and repair; perfect for any girl on the go this summer!”
