Q&A with Elle Macpherson

Elle Macpherson, face of Invisible Zinc, has spent so much of her life in the sun, from photoshoots to visiting family in the summertime – she really is the original Aussie beach babe. We think she looks better than ever – how does she do it? Elle shares her best summer beauty and makeup tips and how she maintains that enviable glow all year round!

How do you hydrate, protect and nourish your skin in summer?
I drink 3 litres of water a day, and nourish my skin with moisturiser at night. I also exfoliate my skin all over twice a week using a dry body brush to encourage skin renewal and stimulate circulation. Most importantly I protect myself with Invisible Zinc ESP on my face and chest, and use Tinted Daywear SPF 30+ on ‘off duty’ days to give me a beautiful golden glow. I also love Invisible Zinc’s new SPF50+ as it contains next generation technology and doesn’t leave a white caste.

Why is incorporating sun care into your daily routine so important- especially for Australian women?
Prevention is always better than cure – for both premature ageing but also more serious skin cancer, especially here in Australia with our harsh sun. Anti-ageing skincare is a huge industry now, but it is UVA rays that are responsible for up to 80% of skin ageing so protecting your skin with sunscreen can help to prevent premature skin ageing. This is something that I wish I had learnt about a lot earlier than I had.

What are your tips for tanning safely?
I don’t think you can tan safely but being Australian we are an outdoors nation where the bronzed beach look is so iconic, faking it is the only way to have a safe tan. The Invisible Zinc Jet Set Tan is great because it really gives you even coverage and the most natural, bronzed colour without the orange look that many tanners give. It also doesn’t have the strong overwhelming smell of other tans- more of a faint caramel scent.

But even when you’ve got your tan on – it’s still important to cover-up and wear sunscreen.

What is your daily skincare and makeup routine?
I am very particular about always removing my make-up and I love to use really nourishing moisturisers after cleansing. I am a big fan of Lucas Paw Paw Ointment another tried and true Aussie must-have along with Invisible Zinc! I drink 3 litres of water a day, and nourish my skin with moisturiser at night. Most importantly I protect myself with sunscreen – Invisible Zinc ESP Moisturiser SPF30+ on my face and chest, and I use Tinted Daywear SPF30+ on ‘off duty’ days to give me a beautiful golden glow.

Today is the start of Invisible Zinc Spot Check Month, encouraging Australians to check their skin for bad spots this January. Invisible Zinc Spot Check Month sees $150,000 worth of free skin cancer checks being offered at clinics around the country. Visit Invisible Zinc for more information.

7 Essential Summer Skincare Tips

From body brushing to getting your fake tan on, pamper your over-partied skin with these 7 essential skincare tips from Veet Beauty Director Amy Erbacher.

Waxing
1. Firstly make sure hair is long enough to wax, otherwise you won’t be able to achieve that silky smooth look. However, with Veet’s EasyGrip Ready-To-Use Wax Strips formula, you can remove hair as short as 1.5mm in length so you will have no more trouble with stubble!

2. If you have sensitised skin, I recommend waxing two days before your special event using Veet’s Easy Wax Electrical Roll-On Kit with Sensitive Refills and then wait another day to exfoliate to prevent irritation that may be caused immediately after.

Exfoliation
3. Prior to achieving a subtle glow with your fake tan application, exfoliation is a must! Why? To gently remove dead skin cell build up, so you have an even canvas to apply your fake tan. It also keeps the tan longer.

I would dry body brush before jumping in the shower or bathing. Remember not to push too hard with the brush as the bristles will do the work, along with gentle swift movements towards the heart. Dry body brushing also aids in detoxification and adds a glow to the skin!

Tanning
4. Fake it – don’t bake it! Don’t over do the fake tan, but just slightly take the edge off pale skin. Especially if, for instance, you are wearing a lot of bright colours and printed fabrics.

5. Fake tan doesn’t work for you? Always apply body shimmer with your favourite moisturising body cream.

Moisturise
6. To prevent dry snake-like skin, be sure to moisturise as much as possible – body oils are great, particularly as fake tan tends to dry the skin out more. I’d apply body oils in the evening and a light weight moisturiser with sunscreen during the day.

7. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drinks lots of water to keep skin hydrated for overall health.

5 Essential Summer Makeup Tips

You’ve prepped from tip to toe but in order to complete the look, there is just one last step to ensure you sparkle at all occasions whether you’re getting ready for New Year’s celebrations, holiday parties or a wedding. Veet Beauty Producer Chloe Morello shares her favourite summer makeup tips to help you sparkle all night long!

1. Add some shimmer powder to your moisturiser and swipe over your limbs and décolletage to make it glow on the day as well as in the photos!

2. To help your makeup last all day, ensure you use a skin primer and eye primer first.

3. Pack your concealer and a setting powder in your purse so you can touch up during the day and stay shine-free for hours.

4. For bright and pretty eyes, dab some light shimmery eye shadow onto the inner corners – this will make you look wide awake.

5. Then elevate the brows by dabbing some of the same shimmery eye shadow under the arch, and give your lips a pouty appearance by applying some over the cupid’s bow.
