Heat-Proof Summer Makeup Tips

While we all want our makeup to last the distance, sometimes the heat and humidity can cause creasing, oily patches and even shiny skin. This summer, prep your face with a few of our beauty-bag essentials for heat-proof summer makeup.

Before applying your foundation, it’s important to use a primer on freshly cleansed skin. Not only will it make your foundation last longer, but it creates a barrier between your skin and the makeup itself so it won’t clog your pores! Wait 1-2 minutes until the primer has completely set into the skin, then apply your foundation as usual.

If you suffer from extremely oily eyelids or simply want your makeup to stay put for hours on end, use a cream shadow. They are so quick and easy to apply if you’re on-the-go and require no touch-ups. Look at the colour wheel and choose opposing shades which will pop on your eyes.

Put away that black mascara in favour of something a little more festive! If your lashes are naturally light brown or blonde, use a blue or brown mascara to make your eyes stand out. Just remember to curl them for best results!

We’re all about those light pink lips, and a subtle lip liner is the best way to make this happen. Carefully line your lips emphasising the cupids bow in the centre, then fill in any gaps with a lipstick of similar colour.

To achieve those rosy cheeks, use a cream or tint on the inside of your face. This brings a healthy, youthful glow and blends in beautifully for all skin tones – even those which are more dry and dehydrated!

Finish off this look with a vibrant manicure which will be your go-to all summer long. For best results, soak your nails in a bowl of lukewarm water, push back the cuticle and file your nails. Wait until each layer of nail polish has dried completely before securing it all with a top coat.

5 Trendy Summer Lip Colours For All Skin Tones

With the warmer weather just around the corner, it’s time to ditch those darker lip colours in favour of summer-ready shades. We’re not suggesting that you retire red, burgundy and purple colours altogether, but rather swap them for lighter shades that look perfect with a warm summer glow.

Who doesn’t love a bright orange lip? Pack away that matte red shade in favour of a shimmery orange lipstick instead. Orange actually suits all skin tones and doesn’t create the illusion of yellow teeth (unlike a blue-toned red lipstick).

Your Ultimate Makeup Routine For Summer

A change of seasons calls for a new a wardrobe, skincare and even a makeup routine. Although the warmer weather is all about keeping makeup and skin looking fresh and clear, sometimes this no-makeup look takes a bit of time to create – especially if you’re faking that summer glow!

Try these tips and products if you want to look glowing and radiant by the time summer comes knocking at your door.

A flawless makeup finish starts with a perfect base – and a foundation which is light and breathable is ideal for the summer. Who wants a formula that ends up creases or even transfers onto clothes? Nobody! Choose a foundation which suits your skin type, and most importantly won’t clog your pores in the warmer weather.

Apply the foundation with your fingers, then blend-out with a buffing brush for a flawless finish. If you only have a few minor imperfections, then pat the product onto the skin with clean fingers.

The best product for creating that glow in your cheeks is a cream blush. But did you know that cream blushes can also be used as a lip-tint? These handy little products are quick and easy to apply – all you need to do is lightly draw a line over your cheek bones, and blend with your fingers.

Take any excess product and dab it lightly onto your lips for a subtle pop of colour. This will create a perfect finish that blends seamlessly into your skin.

Modelco Cosmetics Cheek and Lips, $24

Who loves a little bronzed skin, especially during the summer? You’ve certainly come to the right place! Whether you choose to contour your face, highlight your cheekbones, or simply apply it all over – bronzer is a crucial part of any summer makeup routine.

Firstly, choose a product which is either matte or shimmery – this all comes down to your own personal preference. A matte formula makes the skin look like you’re rocking a real tan, whereas a shimmery formula is perfect for sculpting and adding a little definition to your face. Suck in your cheeks, then apply the bronzer directly into the hollow.

Make sure to blend it out really well if you want a natural glow. Then dab your fingers into the highlighter and carefully pat onto the tops of your cheekbones, over the brow bone, and on the cupids bow.

Give yourself a healthy, radiant glow with the help of a highlighting product. There are many different ways to apply this to get the best look possible, but if you’re new to the highlighting game, it’s best to stick with a liquid formula.

Carefully dab the product onto the cheeks for a healthy glow which is the epitome of summer makeup. You can also apply the product onto your brow bone and cupids bow for the illusion of a plumper lip.

INIKA Light Reflect Highlighting Creme, $39

We definitely can’t forget the eyes, which are easily one of the best ways to transform your entire summer makeup look. Use shades which complement your eye colour – but you can always play it safe and use metallic or nude tones as well.

Blend over your eyelid to create definition and add so much more dimension to your entire look. Use a soft, tapered blending brush to soften those edges, and define the crease of your eyes with a slightly darker shade. Keep blending out the product until there are no harsh lines.

5 Lipstick Shades For Summer

Who doesn’t love the warmer weather? We bid adieu to winter coats, the days are longer and even the makeup we use also changes. Embracing a bolder lip colour all comes down to your own individual confidence, as well as your own skin tone. We share with you some of our favourite summer-inspired lip products which will surely ease you into the bright-lip trend!

Orange is definitely the new red! Not only are orange toned lipsticks easier to wear, but they suit almost every skin tone as well. Rather than their high maintenance counterpart, orange lipsticks generally don’t require a lip liner, and can be worn as a lip stain for a fun pop of colour.

We recommend: MAC Cosmetics Morange Lipstick, $36

Tone down your makeup look by applying a sheer, nude lipstick for a sultry disposition. There are many shades of nude lipsticks for fair, medium and darker skin which are really low maintenance and available almost anywhere.

We recommend: Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Nude Pink, $11.95

We cannot resist a pop of pink colour for the spring season, and this is certainly no exception! The best way to wear a baby pink lipstick is by applying the product with a lip-brush. This will ensure a perfection application every single time, and will buff the product flawlessly into your lips.

We recommend: ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick in Parisian Pink

Go for a neutral makeup look with a dash of colour with a classic coral shade on your lips. Coral tones suit every skin tone, but look amazing on medium and darker skin when paired with a winged liner.

We recommend: Nars Lipstick in Casablanca, $35

Who said that darker tones were only reserved for the colder months? Choose a plum or darker shade which is of a sheer formula, since this will give your lips a pop of colour without being too harsh.

We recommend: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine, $55

Melanie started with L’Oréal Paris Magic Nude Liquid Powder Makeup in Sun Beige. For Lea’s radiant cheeks, she applied L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in Nude Lift.

Lea’s clean eye makeup only needed a slick of eyeliner and layers of L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Mascara to elongate and curl Lea’s long lashes.

Melanie applied L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Eternally Nude for Lea’s perfectly nude lips – the perfect lip stain for summer tan skin.
