How To Tame Flyaways

Frizzy hair and flyaways often creep along and ruin any chance of a good hair day. But did you know that there are many ways to keep your hair frizz-free without being strapped for cash? Follow just some of our tips below so you can have a killer hairstyle sans-frizz or flyaways.

DON’T: Rub your hair

Instead of rubbing the towel on your hair, simply pat it gently over the ends. This is one of the most common ways to avoid having flyaways, since the static from the towel interacts with the cells in your wet hair. Try and wring out as much water as you can, then gently pat downwards to remove any excess moisture on your hair, before applying a serum.

DO: Use a serum

Apply a serum to the ends of your hair before using any heat products to style those out-of-control locks. Hair serums and oils are important because they help to lock-in moisture, and will leave hair looking sleek once it’s finally been dried and styled.

DON’T: Brush wet hair

Even though it’s very tempting since many knots and tangles can develop once you’re out of the shower, it’s best to avoid brushing or combing hair when it’s wet. It will only lead to faster split ends, and make your hair brittle once it’s been dried. Once your hair is completely dried, use a soft-bristle brush or comb and carefully brush through the ends before making your way to the scalp.

DO: Use a hair pomade

Hair pomades are specially formulated water-based styling products which help to reduce the frizz caused by heat. Massage the product into the ends of your hair just before leaving home to carefully tame any impending flyaways.

Use: Uppercut Deluxe Pomade, $24

DON’T: Forget to condition your hair

Conditioner is just as important as using a shampoo, since this short little treatment gives life to dull or problematic hair. Look for conditioners which are silicone-based since they coat the hair follicle, which makes it less prone to damage. Leave-in for 3-5 minutes before washing out with lukewarm water.

DO: Use an anti-frizz shampoo

These products actually work quite well at eliminating frizz, since they are packed with moisturising ingredients such as aloe vera. The only way to have frizz-free hair is to keep your locks hydrated and avoid using too many heat or styling products directly onto unprotected hair. Anti-frizz shampoos will work as a temporary solution since they replenish hair without drying out the ends.
