The Hunger Games Workout
Everyone is obsessed with The Hunger Games right now! Here’s how Jennifer Lawrence got in shape for her role as Katniss Everdeen.
Katniss is a master at archery, a survival skill she used at her district which came in handy during the competition. Enrol in an archery class (so much fun!) or buy a bow and arrow set and head to your local park (just watch out for kids and dogs!).
Curtsy Squat Side Lunge
Standing with your feet together, hold heavy dumbbells in each hand–arms remain hanging and still the entire move. Step out to the side with your right leg, keeping your left leg straight. Hinge forward slightly but keep chest lifted. Push off your right foot and immediately step back and cross behind the left leg, bending both knees into a curtsy squat. Return to standing.
Foxface Quick Feet
Start standing, and shift weight back and forth between your feet (like running in place) as fast as you can. Either have a friend shout out commands, or alternate between the two every 10 seconds for the alloted time: “down” means you’ll drop to a push up position on the floor then pop up as quickly as possible; “up” means you’ll do a tuck jump. Continue for two minutes.
This new class sweeping gyms around the world incorporates tribal dance moves with yoga and plyometrics for a fluid workout that fatigues the muscles and maximizes caloric burn. Oh and it’ll make you sweat…a lot.
