The Most Romantic Place in the World

April 13, 2004

We recently asked our readers to share with us their thoughts on the most romantic destinations in the world. From the Greek Islands, to your own backyard, here’s what you said…

Rhonda: “The visual splendour of Greece, it’s contrasting landscapes, treasures of the past, the incredible brightness of it’s light, the sculptured coasts and blue seas, it’s a uniquely romantic place to be.”

Diana: “The unimaginative say Paris; but I say Mt Druitt (NSW) because all it takes for romance is some imagination and ability to get down to it!”

Dawn: “Lying back on the perfect white sands of Cable Beach, Broome WA, watching the sun set with a glass of Champers and my honey beside me.”

Amanda: “My bedroom without my children!”

Vera: “Most romantic place in the world is at a place called Oia on the island of Santorini in the Greek Isles. The sunset to be viewed from this place is truly magnificent with the suns rays of red/orange/gold combinations falling on the azure waters of the Aegean.”

Theresa: “Well I think having dinner on Centrepoint Tower Restaurant and looking out on the window side to see Sydney city view at night with your partner is the most romantic place – right here in Sydney!”

Shari: “A little town called Cody in Wyoming in the USA. Cuddling up with your loved one in front of the fire in a log cabin, overlooking the mountains. The scenery is picturesque and the town very quaint.”

Renee: “Without question; the most romantic place in the world (that I have seen so far) is the Cinque Terre on the Mediterranian coast line of Italy. The Cinque Terre consists of 5 tiny villages built right above the sea. They are surrounded by large; rolling hills of olive groves and vineyards; as the villages make their own outstanding olive oils and wines. There are beautiful hiking tracks through the vineyards linking the villages with amazing views over the sea.”

Linda: “Noosa, Sunshine Coast, QLD. Beautiful restaurants, beautiful weather, great romantics strolls after dinner along the boardwalk.”

Liz: “Disneyland. I know that might sound funny, seeing it’s meant for kids, but it’s a place where a couple can just let their hair down and have fun. All the worries of their lives are left at the gates letting romance shine through!”

Tes: “The most romantic place in the world to me is VonaVona Lagoon in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands. It’s a beautiful stretch of turquiose waters dotted with lonely little islands, it makes you feel like you’re the only two people left on earth!”

Janine: “Paris toward the end of Summer. A balmy evening spent viewing the city from the top of the Eiffel Tower, followed by a long walk along the Champs-Elysee with the love of your life.”

Kristy: “The local RSL. (In Tuscany) :)”

Jennifer: “A winding road call Clara’s Vale in Ireland. The trees have grown over the road and its like driving through a tunnel. The sun filters through the leaves creating the most amazing colours. You feel as though you are the only person in the world when you are there.”
