The Power of Scent

August 13, 2002

French women have had it down pat for ages…and we’re talking ages. Think Napoleon and Josephine. The way French women smell is very important to them. None of us SheSaid gals can even leave home without a scent on. But French women have had the edge for ages… until now. We’ve discovered their secret – fragrance layering. They have always gone soap, body lotion and then parfum. The secret is in the body lotion. When applied all over each morning, a good lotion can have you smelling sublime all day. Treat yourself to a luxury body lotion from one of the top fashion houses. Your scent will linger after you wherever you go and more importantly, you’ll smell so great, you’ll have him coming back for more! That extra layer of scent in the body lotion gives you extra glamour power and makes you smell like a million dollars. Here

are the ones we love and the ones that have real power in their scent!Scents we savour:

Chanel: Chanel No 5, (of course darling). Creme pour le corps. Body cream. Make sure you get the body cream – not the lotion. There is a world of difference between the two. And use it sparingly. The fragrance is strong, so no need to waste it. Divinely feminine – if the colour musty pink had a smell, it would smell like this.

Around $120

Clarins: Lait Corps Soyeux. Revitalising body lotion with plant-marine cell extracts. This is fresh and buzzy straight after the shower. Strong refreshing scent that will last all day. The scent is subtle, but stays put. A faint, sweet note of patchouli gives it an edge.

Around $40

Yves Saint Laurent: Nu Velvety body lotion. Super-moisturising and velvety with a hint of orchids in the fragrance, this body lotion is very sleek package. The most luxurious lotion of 2002 – its pump dispenser makes it perfect for the busy girl in need of a quick daily dose of glamour.

Around $70

Oscar de la Renta: Intrusion perfumed silk body veil. This one is so luxurious it’s called a veil. Soft and silky all at the same time with a heady mix of indecipherable smells. We love the name and it’s packaged in – what else? Pink.

Around $90

We also fell in love with Aesop’s sandalwood body lotion – because of the incredible long lasting tangerine and sandalwood scent, but also because it’s Australian. The packaging is clean too. Something that looks as medicinal and sensible as this has got to be good for you.

Lippy Time

Apparently if a man is sexually attracted to you, he will look at your lips more than 2 times in 5 minutes. See if you can catch him looking… We’ve also got a few suggestions to pack in your tool kit…to help attract the light and him. Here’s how to get his glance moving downwards to your perfect pout. Gals! Say goodbye to matte for now! It’s all about gloss! We’ve searched for the top 3 products you shouldn’t live without when it comes to your lips. Kiss kiss.

Bobbi Brown: Crystal Clear Lip Gloss ($40). Sometimes it can be as simple as enhancing what is already there naturally. This high performance gloss can be worn all on its’ lonesome or over lippie for a new millennium shine. According to our source there are some extra goodies in there too. Jojoba oil and Vitamin E leads us to think this might be the intelligent girl’s gloss…

Nars: Baby Doll lip gloss ($50). This one will be in the stores…and then it won’t be. It’s not sticky, the colour is like crushed strawberries and it lasts forever. Super-cool…looks really good when you pull it out of your handbag to touch up. Shiny and sassy with a slight tinge of raspberry in the shade…it works. Try Mecca nationally.

Christian Dior: Diorific Mystic Mauve, ($46). We adore the name and this is a colour that lives up to it. A real must for any make-up bag. This is the colour you wanted, but could never find. The colour that makes people wonder what it is you wearing on your lips. Looks natural, but it’s not, it’s Dior.
