Titanic endeavour for Kate Winslet

Titanic star Kate Winslet and her new husband, American Beauty director Sam Mendes, are expecting their first baby in January, according to reports out of London. “They are both delighted with the pregnancy,” said Chloe Dunbar of Premiere PR in London, which represents Mendes. Winslet has a 3-year-old daughter Mia from her previous marriage to director Jim Threapleton. The glamorous couple wed in secret in a romantic garden wedding in early May this year, and by all accounts knew they were in the family way before the ceremony in the Caribbean. Dunbar said the happy couple were currently on vacation in Italy.

Sean Connery ? accent the pits!

According to a poll by UK movie magazine Empire, Oscar-winner Sean Connery has been named the actor with the worst film accent of all time. Edinburgh-born Connery may have won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Golden Globe in 1988 for his performance as Irish cop Jim Malone in the 1987 film The Untouchables, but movie experts agreed his accent was the pits. “Whether he’s a Russian sub captain (The Hunt for Red October) or even an English king (First Knight and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), always that baritone Highland burr remains,” one critic said in the magazine’s August edition.

Say what? The worst on screen accents revealed?

Others notable mentions went Heather Graham for her would-be British accent as a prostitute in Jack the Ripper flick From Hell; Julia Roberts for another dodgy attempt at a British accent in Mary Reillyand, surprisingly, the queen of accents,Meryl Streep, got the thumbs down for her bash at a Danish accent in Out of Africa. The still-luscious Brad Pitt got a no-confidence vote for his attempted Austrian-accented in Seven Years in Tibet, but actually redeemed himself with a stunningly good ?Pikey? accent in the cult film Snatch, where he played a bare fist Gypsy boxer. Aye!

Madonna and Tony Blair ? pen pals?

Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie(Snatch), have written to UK Prime Minister Tony Blair complaining that a planned walkway just 100 yards from their country mansion in Wiltshire, southern England, would allow curious sightseers and paparazzi to get up close and personal with their young family at home. Blair is obviously a Madonna fan as the couple has won their battle. The Countryside Agency said the singer was among hundreds of local residents who filled out a comment sheet about proposed changes to walkways in the area, and that the Material One was not solely responsible for the path plans being scrapped.
