What To Wear To A Job Interview

Preparing for a job interview is never fun. If you are getting ready for an interview, selecting the right outfit can play an integral role in whether or not you get the job. Follow these four tips before your next interview (and good luck!):

1. Keep it classy

Even if the company you’re applying for has a casual dress policy, it’s best to go conservative for the interview. Often, you’ll be interviewed by HR, who almost always dress in a suit. Plus, it shows your potential colleagues that you’re serious and professional.

2. Black is not always best

Black was traditionally seen as a power colour, indicating confidence and professionalism. But don’t think you have to wear black for your interview today. Sometimes it can look too severe and stuffy. You can still dress conservatively in shades of grey, which can look really smart against a coloured shirt or blouse.

3. Consider your industry

When you’re choosing your interview outfit, you need to think critically about your industry. For example, if you are applying for a job as an interior decorator, it would be appropriate and to incorporate colours into your outfit. An example would be wearing a light grey suit with a turquoise top. Unless you are going for finance or legal jobs, incorporate a taste of your individual style into your outfit.

4. Details, Details, Details

Remember to pay attention to details such as your jewellery, nails and makeup. While jewellery can enhance your interview outfit, it shouldn’t be too ostentatious or loud. Keep your nails chip-free and clean. Also remember that you wear your face just as you do your clothes. Opt for make-up that subtly enhances your natural beauty rather than loud colours.
