What Are BB Creams? Plus 3 Of The Best

June 12, 2012

The beauty world is abuzz with love for BB creams. So what are these wonder creams, and are they really as great as they sound? Plus we share 3 of the best BB creams on the market.

BB creams stand for blemish balm, beauty balm or beauty benefit, and they’ve been huge in Asia for years. BB creams are billed as a miracle 5-in-1 product: they cover like a concealer, even out complexion, prime the skin, moisturise and contain SPF. They’re like a tinted moisturiser, but better.

Now they’ve finally hit Australia, so are they really as good as they sound? It depends. If you don’t wear a lot of makeup, you probably don’t need a BB cream – just moisturise and touch up with concealer. But if you like a little coverage, similar to what you get with a tinted moisturiser, you should definitely try BB creams.

Here’s three of the best:

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream, $10

This cheapie has been a favourite of beauty editors around the world since it launched. It smoothes lines and blurs imperfections, so your skin appears luminous. A great price point to try BB creams to see if they’re right for you.

Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++, $22

Missha is one of Asia’s best-loved beauty brands, creators of one of the original BB creams. This cream is perfect for making large pores, blemishes and post-acne scars fade away, with the bonus of a super high SPF.
