The Breakfast Club Reunite After 25 Years
Can you believe it’s been 25 years since the release of the iconic Eighties movie The Breakfast Club?
Four of the five Brat Pack stars have reunited in NY for an anniversary screening of the film which catapulted them to fame.
The princess, the brain, the basket case and the criminal were all there…but where was the jock?
Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson came together to celebrate the movie and pay tribute to late director John Hughes, but Emilio Estevez was notably missing.
Ringwald, 42, who played princess rich girl Claire Standish in the film, says no film has come close to what they achieved.
“There’s been nothing to replace it. Until something comes along that can hold a candle to these movies, they will continue to be what they are.”
What would Claire be today, according to Ringwald? “Maybe she’s been married a few times. Hopefully she’s happy.” Ringwald is currently starring in The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
Anthony Michael Hall’s character Brian Johnson was said to be based on director John Hughes. “John allowed us all to feel vulnerable. He was brilliant at using humor to get to that place,” he said.
Hall, also 42, is now sober after battling a alcoholism but credits Hughes in giving him his first break in Hollywood. He went on to appear in movies like Weird Science and Edward Scissorhands.
Judd Nelson, 50, played bad boy John Bender. When asked where ‘the criminal’ would be now he said, “He’d clearly be the principal of that high school! He know what those kids are going through.”
Nelson has starred in a stack of TV shows and is appearing in nine upcoming movies.
Ally Sheedy, 48, played basket case Allison Reynolds. Sheedy admits, “There was an awful lot of me in Allison. She is very close to who I was.” Sheedy battled a sleeping pill addiction for years but is now fully recovered and apart from small roles is a happy mum to a teenage daughter. She said she can see Allison working on off-Broadway shows “and cool dance performance groups.”
Sadly Emilio Estevez who played the jock was not present for reasons unknown. He’s currently starring with brother Charlie Sheen in Two and a Half Men.
