Which Celebrities Have Joined The Giving Pledge?

A diverse range of celebrities as well as 40 billionaires have pledged to give away half their fortune to charity.

The initiative, set up by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and the world’s most successful investor Warren Buffet, encourages the US’s richest families to donate money to the world’s most serious problems.

While the pledge is not legally binding, the participants – who so far include New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, designer Diane von Furstenberg, media mogul Ted Turner and banker David Rockefeller – have agreed to give away half their fortune during their lifetime or after they die and have written a letter explaining where they want the money to go to.

Filmmaker George Lucas, who also took the Giving Pledge, wrote: “A good storyteller is ultimately a teacher — using the arts as a means of making education emotionally meaningful…I am dedicating the majority of my wealth to improving education. It is the key to the survival of the human race.”

Let’s hope more celebrities put their money where their mouth is and take the pledge.

What do you think? Definitely a feel good Friday story!
