Dust off that bunting again, there’s a royal bun in the oven!
The Palace has confirmed The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is pregnant with her first child with husband Prince William. She is believed to be less than 12 weeks’ pregnant.
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby,” read the statement released today.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.”
However the happy announcement was tempered by Kate, 30, being admitted to hospital for “acute” morning sickness, with William, 30, by her side.
“The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum,” the statement continued.
“As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”
The symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum include severe and persistent nausea and vomiting. If untreated, the patient can suffer dehydration and unhealthy weight loss.
British Prime Minister David Cameron congratulated the couple this morning, saying, “I’m delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. They will make wonderful parents.”
